What doterra aromatouch massage actually involves

The doTERRA AromaTouch Technique is a defined protocol, not a general aromatherapy massage. Eight CPTG essential oils are applied in a set sequence along the spine and on the feet, using light touch and specific application points. Because the sequence and the oils are fixed, the experience is consistent every time — and because certification is required to perform it, not every therapist offering aromatherapy can offer this.

The protocol moves through four stages: stress management, immune support, inflammatory response, and homeostasis. Each stage uses its own oils, applied to the reflex points of the feet and then along either side of the spine. The touch is deliberately light. This is a sensory and olfactory session rather than a musculoskeletal one, and it feels quite different from a standard massage.

Jill is AromaTouch certified through doTERRA and uses CPTG-grade oils, which means the oils are third-party tested for purity rather than cut with synthetic carriers or fillers. If you have reacted badly to scented products before, tell her — the oils are potent, and she can dilute more heavily or skip specific ones.

Most clients add the 30-minute protocol to a 60- or 90-minute massage, which pairs the physical work of deep tissue or Swedish with the sensory shift of the oils. It also works as a standalone session if hands-on muscle work is not what you are after, or if deep pressure is off the table for medical reasons.

Book this if

  • You already use essential oils and want the technique done properly
  • Deep pressure is not an option for you medically
  • You want to add something to a massage you already book regularly
  • Stress shows up for you as wired rather than sore
  • You are curious about a modality that is genuinely uncommon locally

How the session runs

  1. Oil selection

The protocol's eight oils are fixed, but dilution is adjusted for sensitive skin. Mention any fragrance sensitivities first.

  2. Stress management

The first stage, applied to the feet and along the spine with light, deliberate contact.

  3. Immune support

The second oil pair, applied through the same points in sequence.

  4. Inflammatory response

The third stage, worked along both sides of the spine.

  5. Homeostasis

The closing stage, followed by quiet time before you get up. The oils keep working after the session ends.

When to book something else

Skip AromaTouch if you have a known sensitivity to essential oils, are in the first trimester of pregnancy, or have broken or inflamed skin along the spine or feet. Some oils are not recommended during pregnancy, so mention it when you book.

doTERRA AromaTouch Massage questions, answered

What is the doTERRA AromaTouch Technique?

It is a defined protocol in which eight CPTG essential oils are applied in a set sequence along the spine and on the feet, across four stages: stress management, immune support, inflammatory response, and homeostasis. Performing it requires certification through doTERRA. It is not the same as a massage that happens to use scented oil.

How much does AromaTouch cost and how long does it take?

The protocol takes about 30 minutes and is $30 when added to any 60, 90, or 120 minute massage. It can also be booked as a standalone session. Adding it to a 60-minute massage is the most common choice.

Is AromaTouch safe during pregnancy?

Several oils in the standard protocol are not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester. Tell Jill you are pregnant when you book and she will either adapt the session or recommend prenatal massage instead. Do not book it as a surprise gift for someone who is pregnant without checking.

Will I smell like essential oils afterward?

Yes, noticeably, for several hours. The oils are applied to skin and absorb rather than sitting on the surface, but the scent lingers. If you are heading somewhere scent-sensitive afterward, plan around it or book at the end of your day.

Do I need to buy anything?

No. The oils are included in the session price and there is no product pitch afterward. If you want to know which oils were used so you can look them up, Jill will happily tell you.
